A giant new steel plant in Vietnam is commissioning bulk handling machines it ordered from German heavy equipment supplier Schade three years ago.

At the end of 2012, Schade Lagertechnik received one of the largest orders in its history, for the new Formosa Heavy Industries steel mill at Ha Tinh in the Vietnam. The order was for a total of 21 machines for a project that is the largest greenfield steel plant development in the world.

In the first stage of expansion five million tons of steel will be produced each year. An additional expansion of the production capacity to ten million tons of steel and a final expansion up to 22 million tons of steel have already been planned.

The delivery package by Schade contains two trippers for the coal-burning power plant and four trippers for the steel mill with a capacity of 5,400 t/h each. In addition, the site will receive six semi-portal scrapers with a track distance of 40.7 metres (discharge performance: 2,200 t/h each).

At the steel mill, a portal scraper with a track distance of 48.5 metres (performance: 1,200 t/h) as well as two boom stackers with a performance of 360 t/h and respectively 3,200 t/h will be deployed. The project will be rounded off by six rail-bound conveyor wagons for mobile discharge machines.

Schade is part of the Aumund Group which is active worldwide. Aumund is also parent to Samson Materials Handling of the UK.
